T O P I C R E V I E WColinBurgessI've just had a report sent to me of a plane crash with two victims named Ed White III and his wife Cathy? Does anyone know if this is Ed White II's son, or just an unfortunate coincidence.pokeyDifferent middle initials, but that may be a typo in the accident report. Will post anything that comes up. ScottBased on what I have found, I'm pretty certain Astronaut White's son would be 51 now, not 52, and has a wife named Michele, not Cathy. Also a news account mentions Edward P. White III's father owning a company. It appears it is not Astronaut White's son, but as you say news accounts can be flawed.ColinBurgessThanks Pokey and Scott - it's beginning to look like it's someone of the same name, but any updatres would be appreciated. I'm assuming the press in Houston would have jumped all over it if it had turned out to be Ed's son.ColinjrkellerI haven't seen or heard anything about this.ColinBurgessJohn,I wasn't given a link for this story, but I'd presume it featured in the Houston Chronicle.ColindtempleThe story was in the Houston Chronicle and elsewhere. The pilot was identified in one story as Edward P. White III,age 52. I suspected the writer got the initial incorrect - an easy mistake to make. The age was very close, so I thought there was a chance the pilot might have been the late astronaut's son.Rick BoosAny updates on this????? Also were the victims killed or injured?Robert PearlmanThe victims were tragically killed. They weren't related to the astronaut. Here is their full obituary as it appeared in Friday's Houston Chronicle: quote:EDWARD PATRICK WHITE III left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, the 14th of December 2004, in Abita Springs, Louisiana while doing what he loved - flying his plane. Eddy was born on the 11th of September 1952 in Houston to Edward and Raye White. He spent his childhood years in Houston and graduated from Waltrip High School in 1972. After attending the University of Houston, Eddy began his 29 years with GMAC and was a Commercial Lending Analyst at the Dallas office. An avid pilot, Eddy had been flying for the past 28 years. He and his wife, Cathy, delighted in their flying on fun weekend trips and to Houston for family visits. Eddy also loved the water, and spent many days with his parents and friends aboard the family yacht. A loving son and father, he will be terribly missed by all. His brother, Michael Andrew White, predeceased him. Eddy leaves behind his parents Ed and Raye White of Houston; daughter, Patricia Evans and husband, Chad, of Houston; stepson, Bryan Alexander Sharp of Lufkin; nephew, Michael Andrew White, Jr. of Houston; aunt, Margaret Gwin of Mobile, Alabama; and numerous cousins. On Thursday evening, the 16th of December, friends gathered for a visitation and the Rosary was recited in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons in Houston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at half past one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 17th of December, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, with the Most Reverend Oscar Lipscomb, Archbishop of Mobile, Alabama, and the Most Reverend Joseph A. Fiorenza, Bishop of Galveston - Houston, and the Most Reverend Curtis J. Guillory, Bishop of Beaumont, the Most Reverend Vincent M. Rizzotto, Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston - Houston, and other members of the clergy concelebrating. A Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Avenue in Houston. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lito Zapata, Richard Yazell, Mark Monsma, Tony DeFore, Greg Hanson, and Lane Williams. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggests that memorials in Eddy's name be directed to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, Post Office Box 1919, Houston, TX, 77251; and/or the University of St. Thomas, 3800 Montrose Blvd., Houston, TX, 77006. CATHY WHITE left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, the 14th of December 2004, in Abita Springs, Louisiana while doing what she loved - flying alongside her husband in their plane. Cathy was born on the 11th of July 1955 in Crockett, Texas. She grew up in Lufkin, Texas and graduated from the Lufkin High School. Cathy married Edward White on the 10th of June 1988. She worked as an Executive Assistant at the Law Department of J. P. Morgan Chase Bank in Dallas and enjoyed her 15 years of tenure. Cathy was a lively "people person" who, along with her husband, enjoyed entertaining. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Cathy leaves behind her mother, Dollie Moore of Houston; father, Bill Carter and his wife, Ann-Marie, of San Angelo, Texas; son, Bryan Alexander Sharp of Lufkin; stepdaughter, Patricia Evans and husband, Chad, of Houston; sister, Connie Griffith and husband, Jimmy, of Austin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
